While many of Alberta’s economic sectors face labor shortages and look abroad for labor, thousands of Albertans in inner-city communities continue to face poverty, unemployment, and exclusion from economic participation.

This paradox must be challenged. Instead of overlooking those closest to home, we must engage, equip, and empower vulnerable Albertans—particularly those experiencing long-term unemployment, or systemic barriers to work, to take part in Alberta’s prosperity.

By investing in inclusive employment pathways, skills training, and social enterprise, we can reduce dependency, strengthen local economies, and ensure that Alberta’s growth includes everyone.
